Billy joined Good Catch Dog Rescue in late January, after being surrendered by his previous owners—through no fault of his own. Unfortunately, he became yet another victim of irresponsible pet ownership. His previous owners made an impulsive decision to get a dog but were unprepared and unwilling to meet the responsibilities that come with caring for a pet.

Billy was loved and adored by his family for months, but as time went on, their commitment faded. When the challenges of time, work, and finances set in, they neglected him and failed in their responsibilities as pet owners. They responded to Billy’s age-related behavior issues, like potty accidents and chewing, by leaving him outside alone. As you can imagine, Billy sought out human companionship from neighboring homes to meet his emotional needs. After months of this, his owners gave him up in a cowardly attempt to avoid further responsibility.

Billy was thrilled to settle into his new foster home, where he was given love, patience, and consistency. With the right guidance, he learned many essential skills, like potty, crate, and leash training. He now enjoys the comfort of a cozy bed, the safety of an indoor environment, and the joy of being loved. He no longer fears being left outside in harsh weather or scary situations. Outside time has become a pleasant routine, where he enjoys potty breaks, playtime, and lazy afternoon naps in the sun.

This stocky boy, is 1 1/2 years old  and a happy, energetic pit bull mix, weighing in at about 45 pounds. His bubbly personality is irresistible, and even the local vet staff know him by name because of his affectionate nature. He greets everyone with smiles, wagging his tail, and sloppy kisses. His foster family says he would win “Silliest Entertainer of the Year” for his playful antics and love of being the center of attention.

Billy is great with adults and kids but might not be the best fit for families with young children or those with mobility issues. His excitement and lack of spatial awareness could lead to accidents like trips or falls. He gets along well with dogs of all sizes, but his energy and strength would be a better match with a dog of similar size and intensity. He should also be in a cat-free home, as he enjoys chasing them.

Billy is best suited for an active family who is home more than they are away. He has a high and playful energy level and loves activities like walking, hiking, and exploring. A fenced yard would be ideal for him to run and play, but he’ll definitely want to join you on the couch for a nap afterward. Billy loves to go for rides and can be quite the clown for fellow motorists as he soaks up the activities. When he tires from traveling he often burrows in between his travel bedding and settles in for a good nap. Spoiler alert: Billy snores!

Billy thrives in a home where his physical, mental, and emotional needs are met, and he’s never once tried to leave his foster home. He’s content, knowing he’s loved and cared for.

Our goal is to find a family that will cherish Billy as he deserves—a family that will love him unconditionally and offer him a forever home. Billy is neutered, up-to-date on vaccinations, heartworm negative, and microchipped. He’s been dewormed, on flea and tick prevention, and has received his ProHeart 12 heartworm prevention injection for a year of protection.
