Say hello to 4 month old Chickpea!
This black beauty, with her blue Heeler-marked chest and dappled front paws, carries a regal air. Confident, playful, curious, and wise, she is highly trainable and makes excellent eye contact. Chickpea loves her stuffed toys, and during the day, when she and her brother Pinto are playing, we often watch her engage in a serious game of keep-away, where she always prevails.
When she was just 8 weeks old, Chickpea suffered a broken tibia in her rear right leg. We suspect her mom may have played a little too rough with her that day. She wore a splint for 4 weeks and was a champ during her vet visits for bandage changes. She's all healed up and raring to go! This little rockstar is tough and keeping her on 'light duty' while she healed was no easy task!
An ideal family for Chickpea would be someone who is home more often than not. At only 4 months old, she seeks the attention and enrichment that a growing puppy deserves. She loves any dog she meets and will melt in your arms when you hold her like a baby. She'll gaze into your eyes and put a paw on your face but when you put her down, it's game on!!! Chickpea has plenty of energy. This pup is not built of too many lazy breeds. (See her brother and sister's DNA results above). An active family would suit her best in a home with a yard. No apartment living for this outdoor lover. She loves to play in the water and often can be found soaking wet after giving herself a bath in the doggy pool. She has the heeler tendencies which include loyalty and recall but also has made a wonderful companion to her foster family. Chickpea has been gentle with everyone she meets- young or old and will likely top out around 35 pounds.
Chickpea is fully vaccinated, microchipped, on flea, tick and heartworm prevention and sooooo ready for the next big step in rescue- a forever family.
